Unmanned systems still need to get their orders from a human. Our command and control solutions can provide the best way to get those orders to the vehicles in the shortest time frame with only minimal operator training.
Command and control options include handheld, portable, or stationary control units, or any combination of the three. Video feedback can be integrated or seperate from the OCU . Any number of cameras can be used.
Physical controls can take almost any form. Any joystick you can buy will work with our OCUs. We also offer steering yokes and different control configurations on our handheld/portable OCUs.
Our command and control solutions are:
Compatible
A complete solution to your application may require unmanned vehicles of disparate types and manufacture. It won't be a solution to anything if you have a different control unit for each vehicle. All our control solutions are JAUS compatible, which means they'll work with any JAUS compatible component — vehicle, payload, control unit, etc. The Mobius command software has been used to control robots from iRobot, Foster-Miller, Remotec, Harris Corporation, and Mesa Robotics. Furthermore, many vehicles can be made to work with JAUS translation layers.
You don't need to train people in multiple interfaces and OCUs. Mobius can give everything a common, intuitive front-end.
Scalable
Whether your solution demands a complete control room with multiple operators and many vehicles across a wide area, or a single vehicle in a house with the operator standing outside on the sidewalk, we can design a solution for you.
One of our customers needed to control two vehicles from forty miles away, and needed real-time video from the vehicles. We designed a radio/video solution that included a repeater for control and a seperate analog video system. This system allows the vehicle operator to remain in an office while the vehicles operate alone on a hot desert road.
Another customer needed a portable command center but also required multiple high-quality video feeds to spot mines unearthed during demining. We designed and built a control center around our Mobi™ handheld OCU that also includes three rugged plasma displays and radios in rugged, portable cases. The handheld OCU can be used independantly to get the vehicle into and out of hazardous operating sites, and the video displays are used in addition to the small handheld display while performing actual demining operations.
Portable
While Mobi is the hallmark of portability and convenience, we also make tabletop or vehicle-mounted control units.
Mobi weighs in at under nine pounds, and includes a neck strap for easy use while standing or walking. The two control handles can be customized with any sort of control you need, and the rugged tablet PC at the heart of the system has a stylus- or finger-operated touch screen. Mobi integrates the controls, the computer, the power, and the radios into one small package. There are no backpacks or external parts to wear, and nothing to plug in or fiddle with. Just grab it and go.
Choose a tabletop OCU when you need good firm control for high speed teleoperation. It's large, comfortable steering yoke gives you steady, fine control over driving, and it can be equipped with one or two tablet PCs. A foot pedal for throttle control is also available. The whole unit is light enough to move from vehicle to vehicle, and can be configured with a wide range of radio options.
And, as with all our solutions, if you have a particular hardware requirement or prefer another type of system, Mobius will run on any modern PC. You specify your perfect solution, and we can implement it.
Simple
With Mobius at the heart of our command and control systems, simplicity and ease-of-use are practically guaranteed.
Intelligent
Mobius is smart. Really smart. How smart is it? It can run circles around. . ., well, anything. And not just circles, but any shape a vehicle can drive. It can also do sweeps, contour, and spiral patterns over and around anything, as well as waypoints with directions and actions. The actions can go anywhere, of course. And speeds are handled automatically to make sure you don't roll anything over. And it can do all those things so you don't have to.
Mobius can plan more efficient paths than you can, and all you have to do is tell it "I want complete coverage of this area here" or "Patrol the perimeter of this area fifteen times at five miles an hour." Plus, Mobius will plan around obstacles and optimize for efficiency based on terrain costs. Smart. Artificially, yes, but intelligent nonetheless.
