LOGAN, Utah — August 7, 2003 — Mel Torrie, President of Autonomous Solutions, Inc. (ASI), announced today the release of the company's Proving Grounds Automation Package (PGAP), a vehicle automation and testing suite aimed specifically at proving ground applications.
PGAP is a combination of controls, sensors, and software that facilitates very accurate and safe testing of just about any kind of vehicle. The package uses highly accurate positioning, intelligent path planning, and robust vehicle controls for a completely automated testing solution. Vehicles can be driven directly -- via remote control -- or they can actually drive themselves using the built-in mapping and path planning toolsets. Automating test vehicles also allows a single operator to control multiple vehicles simultaneously, vastly increasing test efficiency.
Through the use of Autonomous Solutions' PGAP system, companies like Goodyear and others have increased efficiency, reliability, and consistency in their vehicle testing. According to Torrie, "A human test driver can run a test ten times and get ten different results. With a PGAP-automated test vehicle, test performance can be consistent and repeatable to a degree not possible with a human driver."
PGAP's supporting software allows users to define vehicle paths with maps, driving paths, waypoint targets, coverage patterns and more. In addition, human operators can drive a path once and PGAP will memorize the pattern and repeat it--including all peripheral control--upon demand.
"If you can drive it once, PGAP can do it again, and again, as often as you need," said Paul Lewis, Autonomous Solutions operations manager, "and our robotic drivers never ask for a break."
PGAP also includes an integrated data-logging interface, designed to interact with third-party data loggers. PGAP-enabled vehicles can return sensor output, real-time video, and 3D-position feedback, supporting the test facility's data collection needs.
PGAP solutions are available now. For a complete solution and pricing, contact Autonomous Solutions Inc. at (866) 881-2171.
