LOGAN, Ut — Dec. 8, 2003 — Autonomous Solutions Inc. (ASI) participated in an experiment organized by the Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems (JAUS) Operator Control Unit and Payloads Committee (OPC).
JAUS is a standard designed to allow operator control units (OCUs) and vehicles from different manufacturers to communicate with each other. The OPC experiment tested how well JAUS compliant systems could actually work together. Six robotic vehicles and seven OCUs from different manufacturers were brought together for the experiment, which took place at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center in San Diego in early December 2003. ASI participated with its autonomous TAGS vehicle and Mobius control software.
The vehicles and OCUs worked together quite well, with only minor technical problems. Each OCU was able to remotely control each vehicle. The OPC identified several problem areas during the course of planning and executing the experiment, and made recommendations to the JAUS Working Group. This was the first of a series of experiments to test JAUS functionality.
Mobius and all ASI vehicles are JAUS compliant, so they can easily integrate with any other JAUS compliant unmanned vehicle system. ASI has been involved in the development of JAUS for many years. Mel Torrie, president of ASI, is chairman of the JAUS Working Group Planning Subcommittee.
