LOGAN, UTAH, February 7, 2007 – Autonomous Solutions, Inc. (ASI), was recognized today by the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) of Utah as Manufacturer of the Year 2006 in the Innovation and Technology Commercialization Product, Small Business Category. Receiving the award in behalf of Mel Torrie, President and CEO, was Roger Andersen, Product Manager for ASI.
This award is given in recognition of developing and implementing new technology that improves efficiency, product value, or work environment of products developed or manufactured in Utah. Two of ASI’s most widely used products are Mobius™ and the jausNOW™ Software Libraries. Mobius™ is an easy-to-use software interface for controlling and monitoring multiple unmanned systems. jausNOW™ is a library of software components that enables developers to easily transition new or existing robotic systems to the Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems (JAUS) communications protocol, the new interoperability standard for unmanned systems.
Mobius™ and jausNOW™ are being used in a variety of industries including military operations, mining, agriculture, material handling, and high technology surveillance. ASI customers include all branches of the U.S. Military, John Deere, Good Year, Raytheon, BAE Systems, and Lockheed- Martin.
Mobius™ and jausNOW™ are key enabling tools that have resulted in Autonomous Solutions being one of eleven organizations that are being funded by the Department of Defense to participate among more than sixty companies in the Department of Defense’s 2007 Urban Challenge Competition. The Urban Challenge, dubbed as “The Great Robot Race”, will be held November 3, 2007 at an undisclosed location in the Western United States. This race will feature fully autonomous unmanned ground vehicles conducting simulated military supply missions in a mock urban environment. Autonomous Solutions is the lone funded participant that is a small business entity. The other funded organizations are large multinational defense contractors or world-class research institutions.
Autonomous Solutions is also involved in many custom robot development efforts working closely with the U.S. Military. Recently, the company has received significant publicity for being awarded production contracts for Spector Under Vehicle Inspection Systems, as well as for the development of the CHAOS™ Ultra Mobility Robot.
